Action Required On Covid -19

FDI policy on handling the Covid 19 outbreak :

Based on a similar policy announced by the Swiss government and the fact that according to the HSE’s own Chief Medical Officer 98% of tests carried out in Ireland so far have come out negative, Free Democrats Ireland believe that the HSE should immediately stop offering tests to people who would be seen as not at risk.  This frees up resources, available test kits and hospital beds for those who are known will be most effected eg elderly, those with respiratory illnesses and healthcare staff who are exposed to the virus.  We also propose the following emergency actions be implemented

- Those with respiratory illnesses or the elderly should immediately self isolate or work from home.

-  Anyone who can work from home should work from home if it can be  facilitated by their employers.

-  Anyone  untested but feel they may have the virus to contact their GP/HSE  and be registered as self isolating.

-   All  healthcare staff who are likely to be exposed to the virus as well as being tested regularly, be properly equipped and appropriate cleaning protocols and risk assessments adopted in their place of work.

 -   That all public events be postponed

-    That all schools and creches take an early and extended Easter break.    This will cause child minding headaches but we feel that most             employers if they can will facilitate working from home and flexible       leave.

-  A 3 month VAT free period for all businesses who are reliant on trading  with the public face to face such as hotels, bars,  restaurants and     retailers.

-    A closure of public buildings and a grace period for Motor Tax and     other state charges that may require the public to pay in person.

-    A  ban on the supply of medical gloves, masks etc to anybody who is not  a medical professional or medical organisation. This will ensure     only those who really need them will have them.

-    Continuation  of current sick-leave requirements with flexibility for self     isolating employees.

This policy to be carried out for 30 days and be open to review in 30 day  periods.
