Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin has announced that he too now supports the introduction of a "broadcasting levy" on every home in Ireland in order to shore up the failing state run broadcaster RTE. This along with the FF policy of supporting taxpayer funding four newspapers, proves without a shadow of doubt that FF and FG are basically the same party. Irish voters are now being offered an illusion of choice in next years general election.
Two weeks ago Taoiseach Leo Vardaker announced that there will be an election next year. His minority government supported by Fianna Fail, will now set about attempting to score points off each other for the next six to eight months, in order to fool Irish voters into actually thinking there is a difference. The bottom line is that there is none. Both are nanny state, welfarist, big government parties with nothing to offer the electorate but more of the same, ie taking your hard earned money and using it to provide services that you wouldn't pay for yourself, if you had the choice.
Free Democrats Ireland, were only formed in June this year. But part of our raison d'etre is to jolt politicians and would-be politicians across the country to run on a platform that promotes tax cuts, less government, individual freedom and an end to the war on free speech and to end nanny state policies.
How long more can this go on, without someone stepping into the breach. In todays Sunday Independent, it was revealed that 6,000 members have left Fine Gael in the last few years. Surely there is leaders among them and those (myself included) who quit Fianna Fail as we grew frustrated with the ever expanding state and continued attacks on our natural born rights. Ireland is crying out, there is a need for change.
